“The road here wasn’t exactly straight – but isn’t that the whole point?”

Come and read why I create!
Hi, I’m Vera, the face behind shinedot studio – a creative place where intuition and precision come together. The road that led me here wasn’t exactly straight, but that’s the whole point, isn’t it?
I studied architecture and loved it – the spatial thinking, the sense of rhythm and design. But I often found myself wanting to approach things differently than what was expected. I like to believe I was good at it, but I never quite fit into the mold.
After graduation, I took an unexpected detour into hospitality. I know what you’re thinking: is this ‘side’ job really necessary to mention in your website bio?! But yes, it is! Because this change of scenery finally made me truly believe that it was okay to want something else than the expected. This re-sparked something in me – a love for storytelling, making, and being part of a creative process; Things that had always been a part of me, but which I (ironically) seemed to have forgotten how to use since starting university. Too busy trying to fit in, I guess?
This is when I started freelancing for a (theater)-set builder and founded shinedot studio. From there, I fell in love again with wood working, and began redesigning furniture on my own. After working hard to get my show on the road, a knee injury forced a sudden pause to the physical work. But since sitting still was never in the cards for me, I redirected my creativity into something that could be more ‘stationary’ for a while. What began as a way to stay creative during recovery quickly grew into something I genuinely love and want to pursue, even now that I’m on the mend.
Should I call myself an artist then? Nah.. I just don’t think that is what it is about for me. I just love making things – to build, invent, paint, and explore. I am a creative entrepreneur, a creative business owner. My work is intuitive and expressive, but also clean and precise – and always personal.
This website is my studio’s home base: a space where I present what I create and share my thoughts. Everything here is made with care, intention, and hopefully just the right amount of boldness.
